I am a self proclaimed cynic who tells it like it is. Everything I write has been extensively researched and I welcome all responses/feedback. My motto is try before you buy. I sometimes (rarely nowadays) get caught up in scams. I will immediately post if I was misinformed. Please let me know immediately if you have a different experience to my reports. I am writing this article today because I have been so inspired by the interview I just did. My name is Shannon James and I am a self proclaimed cynic. I do, however, cherish and take toheart the topics I write about.
I interviewed Gene LaCoste today from All American Helicopters. I have been doing research into lucrative job markets and being a Helicopter Pilot is a great career based on my research.
I found numerous ads for All American Helicopters and decided to check them out. Their biggest selling point is that their Chief Pilot/Chief Flight Instructor, Gene LaCoste is a 2 star General. I thought – yeah right.
I was surprised when they answered my email. I was even more surprised when they called me back (on their dime). I decided this was worth my time to go onsite and report face to face.
Here is what I found:
They operate out of a hangar at Denton Municipal Airport. The main office is very clean with nice furniture. Gene LaCoste and 2 of his staff were ready to meet me. They sat me down and told me that this was going to be a ‘truth and lending’ interview where all cards would be put on the table. I secretly rubbed my hands in glee ready to kick their collective butts.
I had already done a TON of research on what I considered their competitors. They answered all of my questions without missing a beat and did not ever speak ill of competitors except one, which I agreed to withhold their name.
These dudes are good: they easily convinced me that their professional training reputation in the industry is legit by giving me references. Btw I called these references which included the police force, air force and veterans. Everyone checked out. I called 10 people.
The All American Helicopters staff talked me into taking an Introductory flight. I must admit, this ranks among the top 30 minutes experiences in my life (and yes, I am quite old).
I signed up to take my Private Pilot after that Intro flight. Gene LaCoste appears to be the real deal. He truly is a 2 star General based on my research. His aircraft are immaculate – I mean shiny and look brand new and fly like angels (take into account my limited experience. I have taken Intro flights with 2 other schools prior to them who I do not even think are worth mentioning.).
I fully intend to keep everyone apprised of my progress. If this is too good to be true, you will be the first to know. Meanwhile, I interviewed students from All American Helicopters in Denton, TX. They were all very willing to talk. I interviewed pilots working in the gulf, police force officers in America and Internationally as well military veterans and the typical American student who was looking for good career prospectives. All had success stories and are very happy.
Stay tuned for more updates from me. I am going through their training to see how it checks out!
