Don’t Expect Anything

How you feel mentally before trying to make a sale is going to have a big impact on how you come across, and so you have to be sure that you aren’t accidentally hurting yourself by going into things with the wrong mind set.

Don’t ever expect to get a sale. This can be one of the worst things a person can do before starting up their pitch. Now, it seems as if expecting a sale will give you more confidence and allow you to do a better job, but really, if you expect that you’re going to get it, you’re less likely to try as hard. After all, you’re going to get that sale, right?

What you need to do is try to earn the sale. There is a huge difference between the two and how you would go about interacting with a person.

Earning a sale means that you know you have to try your best and give it your all if you want to get someone interested in buying from you. You’re going to make sure that you look the part, that you got your business card printing taken care of and are ready to hand them a card, and that you have all the facts straight in your mind about what you’re going to say.

You’ll have the mentality of a person trying their hardest to do a good job, and the people you’re talking to will be able to tell, and will appreciate the effort you’re putting into it.

But if you expect the sale than you’re going in with the mentality that yeah, you’re getting that sale, so how hard are you really going to be trying for it? Will you have spent that extra time on your business card printing to make sure your card is the best it can be, or will you just say, “Why does it matter, I know I’m going to succeed.”

The way you act around the people might come across as egotistical and smug. This is more likely to put people off and make them apprehensive about doing business with you than anything else. When it comes to almost any sale you’re supposed to be doing your best to help the person by providing them with the best service possible.

When you start expecting people to buy from you you’re forgetting that you’re there to serve them, not the other way around. But if you’re trying to earn your sale than you understand that the customer is coming first and you need to make the experience as good as it can be for them so they’ll want to come back.

Next time you go into a sale ask yourself whether or not you’re really trying to earn it or if you are expecting them to give you their money.
