A very important and often overlooked part of your working day is having the right clothing for your job. Being equipped with the right clothing can really make the difference between a comfy ‘pleasurable’ day at work and sweaty, sticky day at work.
There are many types of popular work wear on the market providing a wide array of choices and options.
A factory worker may require work wear that is comfortable and allows him to do his job with comparative ease. The purpose behind high visibility work wear is in the name itself; ensure that the person is highly visible to everybody around. The most popular colors in high visibility work wear are orange, yellow and fluorescent green colors. Hi Vis has bands of reflective tape around the limb areas and the torso depending on the outfit being a jacket or trouser.
A good example of High Vis workwear being used could for instance be a full length raincoat for that heavy downpour or a thermal lined jacket for the snow. These items not only keep you safe and seen, have the added benefit of keeping you warm if you are outside all day.
Any clothing used in the workplace needs to be first and foremost utilitarian to the needs of the organization. In this regard it is usually highly beneficial to brand your company clothing with your name or logo. This way you are getting a higher profile by advertising your company. Give your staff a uniform can sometimes breed a sense of team spirit, this of course depends of the type of business you are involved in, asking staff you wear a uniform can lower staff moral too.
Whist on the subject of workwear I believe it would be worth mentioning work boots. I know many people don’t like wearing steel toe caps as they are often heavy, and not particularly comfy. Me personally I wouldn’t work without them. When I was a young man a friend of mine lost all his toes using a cultivator with a pair of trainers. I know this is scaremongering but, it’s true.
As composite materials have become better and better, safety boots have become a lot more like trainers. In fact Adidas make a pair of safety trainers now, that aren’t too far removed from a pair of Stan Smiths. Composite toe cap and mid sole boots are much lighter than steel so won’t tire you as much. Not to mention they will also stop you losing your toes to a cultivator.
In summary you have to remember that the correct work wear can not only make your life at work a lot safer, but also more comfy and enjoyable. It is all about choosing the right clothing. While a few of my colleges go a little too far with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) such as ear muffs safety goggles and glasses, I really think there should be no reason for anyone to come home from work injured. In the modern age it just shouldn’t happen.
Remember people measure twice cut once. Keep Safe.
