Ever thought about using a GPS unit? GPS navigation is becoming so affordable. Let me tell you how using a GPS unit saved time and made my life easier. A couple of years ago, I was riding with my older sister in her new Lexus. There was a screen on the front dashboard that looked like a dvd player. You see, my sister is a Real Estate Agent. She has to have a nice car to take her clients around town. I thought, “wow, I guess you have to have fancy car to have one of these in your front seat.” Well, naïve as I was, I had no idea that it wasn’t a dvd player. I was soon to find out that it was much better than that! When I asked her about it she said it is a GPS Navigational device. I hadn’t really heard about those being available to the general public yet. (Ok, so maybe it was more than a couple of years ago.) Anyway, she entered in the address of our destination and pushed a button that said go. Next thing I know this voice comes out of nowhere and begins to tell us how far our next turn is, which lane to be in and if we accidently miss our turn, it gives us an alternate way to go. I was hooked! This thing was cool. I would have loved to have a car with one of those GPS things in it. However, as a wife of a minister and a stay at home mom, well, let’s just say a Lexus is a pipe dream. So, I enjoyed hers when I was with her and dreamed of having my own one day.

A few years later, I was on a road trip with a couple of my friends heading to a conference. When I entered the car lo and behold, Karen the driver had a Garmin portable GPS unit. She plugged in the address of the hotel we were going to and pushed go. Soon we were on our way with no worry of getting lost. After we had been traveling for couple of hours we decided to stop for lunch. Karen asked us where we want to eat lunch? None of us could make up our mind and even if we could we didn’t know the area and would have to settle for something just off the highway. But Karen said, “don’t worry, we can find any restaurant we want with my Garmin GPS unit.” So, we all decided we wanted Panera Bread. She asked one of us to enter it in and we saw that there was one very close by. We followed the GPS directions to the restaurant. We never would have found it on our own, too many turns. We were all very impressed with this GPS unit. We had a great lunch, grabbed our bags and headed back to the car. About an hour or so past the Panera Bread stop, Mandy shouted, “Oh no! I left my purse at the restaurant.” We all panicked. How would we ever find the restaurant again, we didn’t even know what town we were in at the time. But Karen said, “don’t worry, I can use the GPS to find our recent selections!” Which is exactly what we did. Not only did it give us the address of the restaurant but it gave a phone number too. We were able to call the restaurant and ask them to put her purse in their safe and that we would pick it up on our way back through town in 2 days. What a lifesaver!

Riding with Karen showed me that I didn’t have to own a Lexus to have my own GPS unit! After we all got back from that trip, every one of us bought our own GPS unit! I use mine all the time. I never have to stop and ask for directions anymore. I can eat where I want even if I am in a new town. If I find a store that I like but forget how to get there again, I can look it up on my GPS. I am an avid garage saler and it has saved me so much time. There are so many things you can do with GPS. The best part about it is that they are getting more affordable everyday. You can get many makes and models all with varying degrees of technology to suit your needs and it won’t cost you the price of an expensive car. My husband bought mine for me a year ago and I love it! I even gave it a nickname and talk to it just like that man in the commercial! Believe me, if you want to make life easier and use your time efficiently, get a GPS unit! You won’t regret it! I am so sold on GPS units that I even opened my own online store.
