Whether your business is run totally online or not, your website is one of the most important things that you have in order to market your business, so be sure you are giving it the appropriate amount of attention.

The first thing that you need to do is to have a good design for your website. Remember that this doesn't have to be something that is the most complex possible. When it comes to websites, most people want to be looking at a site that is neat and clean and that they can easily navigate through. Your site should be easy to understand, written clearly and make the point relatively quickly.

Select a hosting company that fits your budget as well as your abilities. If you are just entering the world of internet marketing, you probably want to select a ‘ready made’ web template that you fill in the blanks with your business information and the rest of the design is set up for you. If you have some knowledge of site design and maintenance, find a hosting company that allows you to go in and make changes, including HTML.

When you are creating your website text, graphics, etc, try to look at the site often and view it as a visitor would see it. Have your friends and family critique it for you – sometimes you look at your design so much you lose the ability to be objective. If you are selling widgets, then someone visiting your site should see those widgets clearly and without a lot of clutter around them. And, always remember that more is not necessarily better.

Many online businesses offer a variety of products and services for prospective customers to choose from. Try to keep the overall look of your site consistent. For example, if you are adding banners to your site, you might want them to be of a similar size and shape. It is helpful and interesting to have some variety in the size, font type and maybe the font color of your text. But don’t get too carried away with color. Too much is cheesy looking and can turn people away. Text that is really, really large can seem like it is shouting at you! Probably not a good idea…

Always remember that your website is a reflection of you and your business. Even if you have invested in a ‘duplicate site’ offer, hopefully you made a wise choice and selected an online business opportunity that allows you to customize your site. Make sure you have checked your spelling and grammar. Misspelled words, incomplete sentences, grammar issues…these are all dead giveaways that an amateur with limited proofreading skills put the site together. If proofreading is not your forte, make sure you have someone else check it for you. Then, check it again.

Finally, be absolutely sure of the product you are promoting, whether it is a tangible product or an online business opportunity. If you don’t believe in your heart that it is a great opportunity, it will show through to your marketing efforts, including your website.
